Hi Gordon,
This 318 poly head has been in the truck for about 4 years or so.
Problem first surfaced last December, I needed to drive a large tractor tire to get it repaired, about 20 miles each way. When it first spewed, I pulled over and pulled the cap. A big froth of oily scum was in the filler neck. I immediately thought head gasket. I cleaned the scum out with rags, and let it cool down and continued on my way, more slowly this time. It would go about 5 miles and start spewing again. I kept checking and never saw any more oil scum. This was about 4 months after having the heads off, I supposed that perhaps some oil got into the water jacket when pulling the heads,, but I cant really see how.
Once at the tire shop, I bought a gallon of antifreeze and topped it off. Got the tire back on and repeated the trip home, 5 miles, let it cool, 5 miles, let it cool.
I then plowed snow in my yard all winter with no more signs of it spewing. This spring, I took it for a few short trips with no sign of the spewing, until yesterday.
So, thats the history of the problem.
Since that first day, no sign of oil in the antifreeze, and nothing in the oil. I changed the oil recently, nothing untoward there.
Thanks,
Tim
