Lots of issues here, including where you drain the spent water (environmental issues), property taxes and permits. Also there is are safety hazards to utility workers if the system is interconnected with the grid.
These days, there is no such things as water that is not owned by someone.
It seems to me that the bottom line after all the problems are resolved, is it really worth it?
Many times, the break even point is so far down the road, even seemingly free power is not worth the effort and money.
How old are you (life expectancy) and how much do you spend a month on electricity?
My 63 year old neighbor just spent thousands on a wind powered generator. Will he still be alive when it pays off? These generators don't last forever and then there are the maintenance issues. A blown inverter costs many thousands of dollars to replace.
