it is a difficult job to fill the shoes of the founder sometimes. the father often had a novel idea, a vision and broke ground during a pro business environment when labor was excellent and customers understood and were willing to pay for quality. look at any big business today that was started back in the late forties. say to yourself, if i were to start that business today, would there be more or less barriers to entry? would customers be more or less price dependent? how much regulatory oversight and outside drag must i endure? how much of my life blood do i have to forcibly donate to others? how do i avoid being sued? i am the 4th generation owner of our family business. it is my responsibility to keep changing, growing and adapting to keep the business alive and the service levels high relative to price. its been a struggle, but turning the corner has been worth the effort. dad is still here every day as a guide and testament to good honest dealings and hard work.

i believe that most businesses are sold based on profit / loss and not a true understanding of the underlying business. they like the #s they see but don't invest enough time learning what makes the #s happen.
