Welcome to the board! Must be the Voltage Regulator you are asking about.
Sounds like you need to get some serious "old school" reading material and catch up.
Points,condenser,choke,generator,etc.
And by all means ask questions here.
Don't pay to much to these guy's. There a great bunch,but will have the last laugh at your expense!,ha
