it was not a option, mid year 1958 W100's switched to using the stronger full floater rear axle, the same rear axle that the W200's used.
It is in the parts books when they made the change from the weaker semi floater axle to the full floater axle, I have looked it up a few times before and without looking right now (off the top of my head) I think it was around 23,000 or 24,000 trucks off of the assembly line.
