Way simpler than those newfangled "electric" spark plugs. No wires to get wet or put on wrong (is it "35" or "24" that's "just right"?), no distributor cap to crack, no points and rotor to wear out and slip, no coil to burn up because you accidentally left the ignition switch on with the points closed and the engine not running. No need to even HAVE a battery or generator unless you're into more fancy gimmickry like headlights and radios. Just a simple little easy-to-replace steel rod sticking down into the top of the cylinder and a little piece of flint clamped to the top of the piston. Piston comes up, flint hits steel, spark ignites gas, and you're off and running. If flintlocks were good enough for George Washington and Daniel Boone, they should be good enough for us.
