I would pull the distributor and check the whole thing out. shaft could be bent wearing out the bushings too. one way to test the timing chain is to pull the dist cap then turn the crank shaft back and forth and se how much movement it takes before the dist starts to turn. the dist should start to turn almoost instantaneously. if you can turn the crankmore than a 1/2 inch before the dist moves then the chain is likely worn out. Or the teeth on the plastic dist gear are worn out maybe too.
