Got the old trolley running pretty good with a valve job and the correct carb, but it's still backfiring through the carb and sputtering now and then. I'm thinking the problem is the spark timing, which is jumping back and forth by 10 or 15 degrees. From what I've read, the harmonic balancer is a likely culprit, and the plastic distributor drive gear is another possibility. I'm getting pretty tired of working on this rig (for free) and don't feel like tearing into it again if I can help it. So, my question is, how hard is it to replace the harmonic balancer? Do I have to pull the grill and radiator? Do I have to pull the timing chain cover and open up that can of worms? Is it going to take a big-*** pulley puller to get it off? Anybody here done one?
