T-roy is keeping track of all the Power-Wagons located with 2-piece lock rings. I think all that have been found to date were built in 1948.

Common Power-Wagon wheels have a 1-piece split lock ring. Those that T-roy have found have a lock ring system the employs 2 rings, and inner and an outer. The inner ring is split, the outer ring is not. Once the outer ring is seated over the inner ring, it appears that it would be impossible for the inner ring to "spring" off of the wheel. They appear to me to be safer than the standard more commonly found Power-Wagon 5.5 and 6.5 split ring wheels.

I have seen these style of 2-piece split rings on heavy dock cranes. Interesting that several 1948 Power-Wagons were equipped with them.
