Saw the OT post in the last forum about the 413-too late to post there!On the 413 problem,best case scenario would be dried and cracked valve seals.Stock type seals will dry up after being ran and parked for extended periods.Rings could be an issue,add marvel oil or a quart of ATF to the crankcase oil and run it.Since it runs,the rings are probably not stuck too bad if at all,at least not in all cylinders.Try a compression check with the engine warm.Also do a leak down test if you have the gauge.I like to do the testing before any teardown,even if is on a cold non running engine.Helps give me a direction showing any obvious leakage.All that being said I still would check the guide seals first.
