Front or side mount distributor?

The front mount distributor has a bushing that wears out, but it's simple to replace. It's a frequent cause of a persistent miss.

Leaking manifold gasket can be diagnosed by spraying a little starting fluid (engine running but cold) around the rear of the manifold. If the engine speeds up you have a leak.

Double check, and then double check again your firing order. N's will run with 2 plug wires out of order, but will be weak under load (and miss).

Last but not least, there were a batch of camshaft gears that had the alignment mark in the wrong location. The engine would start and run, but was weak and missed.
