My grandfather ran a donkey in the Ca. redwoods. I remember once he told me the rule of the woods was to never step over the cable but rather step on it. I puzzled over this for a while then he explained that if you were down in a dip, when the slack came out of the cable it would jump up very rapidly. If you were straddling the cable at the time it would really hurt. If you merely stepped on it you would just take a tumble.
I also collect steam stuff besides Pws. I always wanted to find a donkey engine but never have. My best piece is a steam powered ice cream maker. Sadly the boiler is beyond repair. Stop and visit some time-maybe we can work out a trade for your donkey! Have extra power wagons. PM me if you like.
