That pipe has something like 5000 to 10000 psi of pressure in it, from what I read. That's a lot more than in any hydraulic system. Do you think you could just crush a pressure tube on a hydraulic system and stop the flow? I think they have to let it flow. The trick now is to get a relatively low-pressure coupling onto it and divert the flow into tankers. Even then, 5000 feet of water is roughly 2500 psi, which is the pressure that is needed at the well head in order to get the oil up the pipe and into the tanker. My bet is that it's not going to seal very well, or may blow off entirely. Can you imagine trying to put any sort of coupling over a raggedly-cut piece of steel hydraulic tubing while it's flowing full-force and has 2500 psi of pressure in the system, and you have to do it all remotely?
