Rob: Don't use a WC 1/2 ton centered rear axle housing, it's weaker than what you now have as it only takes the 8-3/4" r&p pumpkin without modification and does not have the brakes you want. Use a mid- to late-WW II WC 3/4 ton centered rear axle housing that originally had the 9-5/8" r&p pumpkin. No WM300 had a centered rear axle housing from the factory (that I'm aware of). Get a copy of John Zentmyer's TM9-1808C (about $12-15 at better bookstores), then read it and understand it before proceeding with your swap. You will be far happier with the final result. Good luck!
