Your voltage shouldn't be more than 15 volts at any time. That may be what fried your ballast resistor. Get a regular Chrysler one instead of a cheapie generic. Also, most hot rodders will carry an extra ballast resistor in their toolbox wrapped in a towel (I've got two in there). You might want to do the same.
