My point is, I don't believe the gain would be as significate as one might think in the 2500 rpm or less range. This is where a diesel would be superior. Yes, the Cummins 4BT is a 4 cyl. and heavier than a stock flathead. But 130HP at only 2300 rpm, with torque of 327 ft.lbs@1700 rpm! You could cruise all day long at 60-65 mph with an overdrive and never exceed 2200 rpm, and also have much better fuel economy.
Again, I stand to be corrected. This just seems like the better way to go, in my opinon.
