Transmission Rear Bearing

I bought all the parts I need to do a tranny rebuild for my '49 PW. This morning I just noticed that the new rear bearing I received for the main shaft is a sealed unit. The old one was not sealed, and was lubricated by the gear oil in the tranny.

Should I try to pry off, or otherwise remove the rubber seals on my new bearing? I know that many modern machines use sealed bearings, and are operated in factories or outdoors, and they last many years. It just seems odd that VPW would send me a sealed unit when there will be gear oil all around.

Thanks,

Matt
