I'm in the process of doing the very same project. I'm using a full size truck ('76 w200 or '90 250) chassis just because that's what I have to work with. A Dakota chassis would work much nicer- the axle widths are closer to the original trucks. The 4x4 is fully boxed all the way to the front of the rear springs. A stout chassis! I've been under a few of them. I work for Dodge-truck Engineering in Detroit.
