I converted an A/C compressor for use as an air compressor on my '74 Scout II a few years ago. It still has the original oil in it and has worked without any problems. I use it a lot and have spent several days using it to blow out underground sprinkler lines with no ill effects. I used a lawn mower air cleaner for the inlet air and added a pressure relief valve to the outlet. The stock electric clutch wire is simply clamped to the positive terminal of the battery with an alligator clip when needed. It's one of the most useful add ons that you can do for your vehicle, even better than a winch.
