At the company i work for, we use CB radios to talk to the truck drivers. It beats getting off your lift truck with the cab on it and walking in the rain or snow to get his attention. We use Uniden radios and get about three years out of a unit. If you think a PW rides rough, drive a lift truck with solid rubber tires and no springs over rough concrete with lots of cracks. We've had guys who got abdominal bruises just from the bouncing.

If you want to have convenience, I picked up a Radio Shack radio with the channel control in the microphone for $5 at a yard sale. Still in the box and it works just fine but is really easy to bump the channel control and change channels without meaning to.

Rather than drill a hole in my '93 dakota, i bought a magnetic mount antenna and slap it on the roof for long trips. It works fair but if you want a good antenna, you want to go with a ¼ wave antenna. I think it's about 108 inches plus the base but a radio shop can tell you for sure. Be sure they set the standing wave to get the most range out of your antenna set up.
