When my pump started leaking, it came out of the wep hole in the side of the pump body and dripped onto the ground.
I am only assuming that it is possible that if the pump leak is in the right spot on the diaphram, gas can get into the crank case.
My rebuilt pump cost $45. Pump # 9543 for my 230, B-3.
