I'm curious about why you say the 230 has splash lubrication. My 230 and all the ones I've read about have an oil pump and when I took mine apart, there were no scoops on the rod caps, oil slingers on the shafts or any other evidence that this engine relies partly or solely on a splash system. All these items I mentioned are characteristic of the Ford Model T engines, which did use splash lubrication.

In my 230, the crank, rods and block have numerous oil passages in them and there are external lines running to a partial flow filter. Is there something I'm missing?

Also, you characterize the 230 as "weak." I always thought that both engines were more or less on par with each other regarding durablity.

I'm not offended by this by any means, but just trying to learn.

Thanks,

Matt
