From the late '50s through about 1967 there was the early version Polyspheric design (different heads (and other stuff)= different exhaust manifolds)

But, not only is there the difference between the "poly" and the LA (modern 318) - there is also a difference in the '68-'69(?) LA and the newer ones. The older ones have siamese middle 2 exhaust ports (share a larger, single "hole" while the newer ones (after '70) have 2 separate ports.
