Yea but I bet those chains ain't worth a hoot. I have 4 or 5 chains which I use and have sharpened. The lady who sharpens them does a great job. A typical chain will last quite awhile unless I hit a rock or something (like a nail in a tree). I will limb, and buck up a 125' Douglas fir with one chain and possibly start on a second one. We are talking trees 2' to 3' diameter at the butt end.

The saw should literally fall through the wood with no pressure from the operator. Look at the chips coming out, they need to be large and angular (if you see this you got a sharp chain). Once you see a fair amount of fine dust it is time to change the chain (a good sharp chain will put out little to no dust).

I have learned that it is cheaper to buy quality equipment and then take care of it is always cheaper than the cheep stuff. A good piece of equipment that is well tuned allows to to work much faster and safer.

I have had my Steil saw for over 20 years and have only replaced the on/off switch and a couple of bars due to wear. It always starts.

Soap box section:
Safety is critical when using a chain saw. I strongly suggest wearing chain saw chaps (no I will not tell you why) and never put your head over the chain when it is running because if it kicks back you just split your head. You have a much better chance of surviving a badly cut shoulder than you do a split head if you think about it.
