Radiators have to give off as much heat as burning (X) amount of fuel. The lower the mpg, the bigger the radiator. The flat head 230 gets 3 mpg off road, ANY engine will do better than that, ergo the stock radiator is big enough for any engine.

Thicker cores help, since the water flows through slower, gets cooler higher in the core, then can continue to cool as it flows down.

Give or take a fan. And, the air also has to be able to get out of the engine compartment after leaving the radiator. I've sure seen lots of pics of WWII trucks in the desert with the side wings of the hood removed. I wonder if that is why the splatter shields on the side of the engine between frame and block, have been removed on every Dodge I ever owned.

Hmmm, I wonder how a hood would look, if louvered to the inside? Like shark gills?
