The vac adv port on the carb may be 'ported spark', no vacuum until speed raised.
Have you tried a timing light? Maybe something lines up with something ?
But, power timing is valid. Advance until it pings under load, then retard a skosh. Takes time, perhaps half a dozen test drives. But can give excellent results. Don't try it if you've spent 490 years working in a boiler factory though, you do need to be able to hear the ping.
