The port below the dipstick tube boss is always the return, the port above the boss is always the pressure/supply to the oil filter. If your filter housing is made by "Deluxe", the lower housing port is the inlet from the engine and the upper side port is the outlet return to the block. If your housing is made by Purolator, then the inlet/outlet configuration can be the same or opposite depending on what model of Purolator housing you have.
