I may be wrong, but I know what happened.

AAA was the first place I went. I originally didn't have the title, but had a current safety inspection in the mindow, which proved it was currently registered. AAA said they couldn't do anything since it was an out of state vehicle without a title. They said it had to go through a DMV office. I checked with two different AAA offices, since I didn't want to go there.

I got the same story there. I got a temp registration to avoid penalties and was told to either bring in a duplicate title, or I wouldn't get a clear California title. I check web sites & other documentation, and it all told the same story.

I don't know where Winters is, and it ain't the first time you go to different DMV's and get different stories, but on this one, every story I heard, read, and experienced said the same thing... if you got no title, don't expect one from California. Since I've done most my DMV stuff through AAA, I tend to believe what they're selling since I've been with 'em since '85.

Maybe each story is different. Maybe the size or type of truck made the difference. Mine was a W300M flatbed. It's a street legal truck & I intended to put on the road, and there wasn't any misunderstandings with the people who looked at the truck & all the paperwork, or lack thereof.
