Usually gasoline will store okay for about 6 months, sometimes longer without additives. (I never leave it in engines longer than 3 or 4 months). Long term storage can lead to deterioration of quality and formation of what most people term as varnish, plus I hate the smell of bad gas. Additives will give it a longer life. I store gas in jerry cans and approved plastic fuel cans. I would recommend plastic as water will condense in metal cans and create rust particles. Main thing is to store it away from the house. I'm betting with your experience you already know all this stuff, but just thought I'd add what little I know.
