Gasoline Storage Question

I have a small generator for back up power ,just to pump a little water and a few lights . I would like to keep a some gas on hand ,I wont be storing for long periods of time I can use it up and refill it often through out the year . My question what is the safest method of storage ie steel , plastic barrels , jerry cans ,I plan to keep the fuel in a drive shed under cover so sunlight isn't a issue . Wouldn't be wanting to keep more than 45 gallons tops > Thanks ~ Copey
