Does the little aluminum bypass elbow even fit those top bolt holes and does it's opening line up with the round hole in your pump. Just looking at the picture, it's made for a whole different bypass elbow. I have a number of 230s and I've never seen a water pump like your. I'm thinking it's for a whole different beast. I wouldn't worry about "cavitation" since it's just for the bypass and there's no coolant going through it anywhere when the engine is hot and you need the cooling. I would worry that the aluminum elbow won't even bolt up to your pump and maybe won't even cover the round hole.
