Will this water pump fit & Original thermostat!

I bought a replacement water pump for the 49 and oops the output holes are not the same shape. Will is cause cavitation and air pockets in the coolant if the pump hole is round and the attached housing is square? Can they be interchanged?

I found the thermostat stamped 3 of 49 looks good and keeps the truck running at 160 all day long. (upgrading to a 180 deg thermostat)
