Why not convert your block to full flow oil filtration? It is done very easily at the oil pump and requires only drilling one hole in the block.

The problem of synthetic oil causing oil leaks in old engines was corrected some time ago and the oil no longers softens rubber seals. The newer oils have been reformulated but the early problems still linger in peoples minds.

Two things I would consider are one, the condition of the seals today and the milage. If you have existing oil leaks your leaks will more likely increase. The second one, the number of miles on the engine. I have heard it is not advised to put it in a new rebuild, but only after the engine has been broken in with conventional oil. You want the rings to seat in the cylinders fairly quickly. Your going to do a couple break in oil changes anyways. I also don't think I'd run it in a high milage engine either as it would probably consume more oil and there would be no benefit to reducing wear in an already worn motor.
