'Super Singles" as they are called are for a couple reasons.
To Reduce Weight and save fuel.
The weight of four rims and four wheels is is about 200 pounds heavier than the same axle with super single.
Thus making your m/t weight less by 500 to 1000 pounds.
That said you can haul more freight which some time pays by the pound.
Super Singles are suspossedly a fuel savings in that they have less rolling resistance.
As for the "Blow Out" you do hear and feel a dual tire when it blows,no loss of control, unless its a steer tire
With the duals you can limp down the road at a slower speed to get to a tire center rather than the hours on end wait time for a repair service..
With the Super Singles there is no loss of control but you are now stuck where it blew.
Along with that depending how much tire is left on the rim after it blew it more than likely ruined the rim rolling on the pavement till you got stoped.
My company bought alot of trucks with Super Singles.
But many are being switched to conventional "duals" when tires need replaced.
