MANY years ago I got stopped at a safety check area and claimed innocense by ignorance. They actually let me go for a bulge in one of my trailer tires.
Other time about 6 years ago I had on oversize load by about literally 1" and I also threw on a little skid steer. Went through the scales with all the confidence, but still new to heavy haul and NOT reading the fine print, in CO (don't know about elsewhere) IF I have a "oversize load" even by 1", that is ALL I can carry. I mean the DOT guy was out measuring with a tape measure for about 10 minutes just to get that 1" and then fine me about $900+++.
The last time I was "puled over" by an angry 4 wheeler going up a small narrow road. When I got to the top, I got in the shoulder (was hauling about #110,000 gross trackhoe)this one guys makes me stop, hops on my truck and starts yelling at me that I should have pulled to the shoulder going up this 2 mile hill to let people by AND I was going around the scale (which I was not)! Plus ya' can't just pulled over and stop going up a hill. Worse part he claimed he was an "off duty federal DOT employee" which I found out later he was. After trying to deal with him, I just said "are you done?" pause "Then get off my truck". I got his plate, called the cops, he went ahead of me pulled off the shoulder and made a "show" that he was calling the authorities on his cell phone. Found out through the grapevine when he called the scales to "report" me, they just laughed at the guy.
