Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have been giving some thought to all the forces acting upon the knuckle housing bearings and what preload is necessary and the risks of having too much vs too little preload.
Since there are few numbers forthcoming and "feel" can't be transferred in these messages I will have to error in one direction or another.
Maybe if someone remembers how much shim was removed after the play was taken out this could lead to some standardization of preload?
