It's phosphoric acid, like in Coke. Much milder than the muriatic/hydrochoric acid the rad shops use.

I'd try Paul's flush system first, then the phosphoric acid. Buy a gallon, dilute enough to fill the radiator while it's laying down. Leave it overnight?

What you want to dissolve is called "lead bloom". It's lead oxide that forms at the solder at each tube-header joint. Or maybe calcium form the water. Just what Lime Remover does best.

Or maybe try several gallons of straight vinegar? Acetic acid, 5%, pretty mild but may take longer? Days perhaps, but if you save a $800 radiator...

But I think Paul uses more pressure than he needs? 25-30 ought to do it? I recall that's how much we used on the flushing machine back in the 70s. It hooked to three or four hoses, ran the blast in all combinations, every direction. Done in chassis.

Nuthin to lose but a core that wasn't supposedly any good anyhow.
