Are you forgetting that all 318 poly engines are not the same. The bell housing mount and crank shaft changed between the 60 and 61 trucks. The 59 and 60 blocks should bolt right up to the bell housing in the 57 as they were the same as the late baby hemi and it's poly versions. The 61 and up blocks are the same as the LA small blocks.


I have never done this swap myself but it was done by Dodge dealers around here as the 318 poly was considered the replacement engine for 241, 259, 270 and 315 engines. I'm putting the parts together to put one in a 56 D200 with a tired 259 in it. From everything I've measured it's going to work.
