The old Chrysler 2.2 I4s had this issue with Fram filters as well.

Technically the Mopar brand filters are made by Fram now, so obviously they meet manufacturer requirements, but if you value your vehicles you'll spend the extra few $$ and get something better.

Bottom line, you're getting what you pay for with Fram (not much).

Wix is good (they can be purchased under the NAPA Gold brand), Purolator is decent (the PureOnes are better), STP isn't bad, the Mobil One and K&N filters are some of the best but for the price they better be.
