You should have an SM 465 tranny, the Ford vans can have the 435 although I have a ford van with a T19. Have you considered a ranger overdrive from Advance adapters? They are a little pricey but they allow gear splitting and are much shorter than something like a gear vendors. I have the 435 which is geared similiar to the 465 in an m37 and the each shift drops the rpm roughly 1000 rpm this doesn't sound like much but my governor is probably 2600 rpm but I have found it kicks in at closer to 2500 rpm. After the shift that puts me around 1500 rpm, my 4bt seems to bog at 1500 and can't really build much boost until around 1800 rpm I believe some of this can be relieved by the adjusting the off boost fuel screw but I have yet to try adjusting the pump. Anyway I haven't found the 465 gearing yet but the gears for a 435 ford are 6.68/3.34/1.66/1.0 and the ranger appears to be .73:1 gearing which would give you 6.68/4.88/3.34/2.43/1.66/1.21/1/.73 which on paper looks ideal to me. I havn't ever used one but they are 7.5" long and rated for 420 lbs-ft. I have been wanting to buy one but my truck is mostly off road and I am not sure which direction I am going with the transfer case and axles (I keep breaking axle shafts)
