My spring packs were rusted together and not able to move in my '52 civilian PW when I started the restoration.
So I took them apart, blasted each leaf clean and then painted each one with epoxy primer and then hardened urethane.
When I assembled the spring packs I smeared a very thin coating of the red marine grease between the springs, mostly to prevent corrosion.
I looked into Teflon but found out it would have been cost prohibitive, as well as controversial. I don't think the thin coating of grease will allow excessive movement, but will help prevent corrosion and so maintain the springs function.
