Hi Dave,
Dave at PDR is getting over 700lbs of torque out of his 4BT with the inline pump & somewhere around 350hp & that engine is tame. Lots out there getting closer to 500hp & nearing 1000lbs of torque but maybe a little smokey for an offroad truck. Dave has a twin turbo setup on his which makes it way more usable & sensible but certainly one big turbo accomplishes the same thing...just way more turbo lag & smoke.
The 4BT isn't little...it's deceiving...it weighs more than a big block :)
The absolute only downside to a 4BT is vibration but if that's an issue for a guy...you're obviously not driving a FFPW :)
The nice thing about a high performance diesel is that it looks, idles & sounds just like the one running 90hp & internally it is the same. Those 4BT's...I've never seen a 4BT or 6BT let go from strength...only abuse or neglect.
They really are a fantastic motor & lets be realistic...none of us need even 400ft/lbs of torque in a FFPW :)
