I have to disagree. You are correct that this spring pushes against the hydroboost plunger and assist's the hydroboost to return. However I have had the hydroboost off 2 of my trucks and have seen quite a few that were removed from Bone Yards. In all cases the spring clip/baffle is pushed forwards towards the MC to the depth the MC protrudes into the Hydroboost. The only thing between the return spring and the plunger on the MC is the thin 5 finger spring stock.

The 5 finger spring/baffle does not get inserted into a groove to assure its position, rather its just pushed into the Hydroboost. Its tension holds it in place, until; the return spring compression + compression of the plunger that the push rod sits in, during braking, the 5 finger spring clip/baffle is pushed forwards till it contacts the MC plunger. The MC plunger sits in the snoot that protrudes into the hydroboost.

The next time you separate a MC from a GM/Chevy hydroboost, measure where the 5 finger spring clip/baffle sits. The measure the depth that the MC protrudes into the Hydroboost. You will see what I am refering to in this post.
