Ma Mopar had sure-grip units as an option in the fifty's. they were NOT lockers. there are major differences between a locker and a sure grip. a sure grip has a clutching system for smooth operation, there have been several types. the early fifty's style was a auburn type w/ cones in the carrier, later styles had clutch pac's. nothing smooth about a locker. as a side note, almost everyone refers to sure grip diffs as posi-trac rear ends, posi-trac is the chevolet name, chrysler called theirs sure grip and ford had the only locker in the bunch w/ the detroit locker, can you say clank, clank, clank, clank. I have a locker in my 58 ff, wish it was a sure-grip. Dave.
