Maybe I'll meet him someday. Next time you're passing through, stop and say hi.

There are a couple of books out recently about the Bunker Hill. One's called "Uncle Bunker", written by a local guy who worked for them -- kind of a low-budget book, but interesting. The other is called "A Room for the Summer", written by a guy who worked there for just a couple years when he was young in the 1950s, and then went on to be a Boeing engineer. His partner was Chris Christopherson, who is locally famous for the "bedroom gold mine" he dug when he retired and moved to Murray. His house was over top of some rich placer ground that had never been dredged back when the Gugenheims turned most of the valley upside down, so he cut a hole in the floor, sunk a shaft down to bedrock and commenced some underground placer mining. It's a bit of a tourist attraction now.

I think the Bunker Hill was closed down shortly after you came through. Bob Hopper owns the mine, but they can't do anything with it without a mill and a settling pond, which the EPA has obliterated. He goes in and picks some high-grade crystal specimens out of some of the stopes. Apparently there's some sort of crystal in there that isn't found anywhere else. In the old days, they all went in the crusher.
