If you're picking up the truck in Kellogg, you're only 15 minutes west of me on I-90. You might as well come up and visit. If you want to make your scenic route REALLY long and scenic, instead of blasting down US 95 from Coeur d'Alene, head east, stop in beautiful downtown historic Wallace, silver capital of the world, etc. I'll take your kids through a genuine underground hard-rock mine, even though it's the off season for the mine tour, and then you can continue over Lookout Pass, down to Missoula, through lots of beautiful country along the way (take the old highway over Camel's Hump from Henderson to Saint Regis if you want to try your new truck on a little bit of snow), then go south into the Bitterroot Valley and either zig-zag back over Lolo Pass and down the Lochsa river, which is probably the longest relatively unspoiled wilderness valley with a major highway through it, and catch up with 95 down by Lapwai and head south, or keep going down the Bitterroot Valley and head for Yellowstone on your way to the Grand Canyon. Yellowstone's not open for driving through during the winter, though, so that might not be the best choice.
