I looked on my parts shelf and found a different style of generic sweep that I had apparently ordered and forgot about; one that was thinner and looked more like the original.
This one worked, hallelujah!
One of the suppliers sold me the one that I had trouble with; it was too thick and stiff to get a good purchase with the clips.
I will try and post a picture so someone else does not get frustrated.
