I experienced arc flash years ago, wearing an old style, non auto-darkening helmet. The sun was behind me and I think now that the combination of the sun and the arc flash was too much for the lens. The experience was not one I would ever want to repeat. I now use an auto-darkening helmet I bought when I bought my wire feed Lincoln, and have never had any problems. I would still never allow the sun-behind-me scenario again. JH
