I am debating whether or not to buy an auto darkening helmet.I think I have educated myself fairly well on what makes good helmet, however after looking at some different sites, there is some concern of arc flash.

Some people have complained that even with fast lens closure you can still get arc flash burning of the retina, which is described as like having sand in your eyes for a few days...

Has anybody out there used an auto darkening helmet for extended amounts of time, i.e all day heavy welding? So far the model that seems to have the best features for the money is the Miller Performance Series #232035. The local shop I went to was selling it for $280.00, I found it for $182.75 at www.cyberweld.com

I just want to be sure that I am getting something I will be happy with, $180.00 is still a chunk of change... The alternative to the auto darkening is www.accu-strike.com. The hood has a visor that you open and close by opening your jaw slightly, which pushes the chin strap. This looks like a really cool set up, but I am not going to shave my beard to use it...
