on the power steering I think it was a unique box to the PW. maybe not though. on the axles. Every axle and Trans/Tcase input output shaft on every vehicle back in those days had coarse splines. So the invention of fine splines just had not happened yet. Even the Spicer 70 did not get fine splines until the late 60s. When PW is used like a tool the axles can last a looong time. I dont think Mr. Dixon is out breaking axles on a regular basis. in 25 years of driving various WCs and PWs I only broke 1 right rear on my 49. and the left front either I broke or was broken when I first bought it. That truck had many many hard life miles on it too. it si jsut that when you start going to lockers the coarse splines are the weak link.
